Walking & Jogging: Take a leisurely stroll along the water's edge, and see boating activities, bird life, rural scenery and residential development.
Walk or jog around the perimeter - it takes about 35 minutes for a fit jogger, or 1¼ hrs comfortable walking.

Canoeing: Take one of our kayaks or dinghies for a cruise on the canal network, or venture out onto the lake.

Swimming: Swim in the canal or other parts of Lake Hood. Beach towels are available on request.

Cycling: Cycle around the lake - we have bikes available for use by guests.

Sailing: Ask your hosts to take you sailing on "Alyeska", their Noelex 25 trailer yacht (time and weather permitting).

Fishing: Try a spot of trout or perch fishing. We can provide fishing tackle and arrange for you to purchase a mandatory licence.

Relaxing: Just relax in our canal-side garden and watch the world go by.

Picnicking: Lake Hood's shoreline provides plenty of picturesque picnic spots. For an additional charge we can provide you with a delicious picnic hamper.

Other Dining Out Options: Ashburton has a wide range of restaurants, cafes and take-away food outlets. We can make bookings on your behalf.

Golfing: Play golf at one of the Ashburton District's several fine golf courses.

Sightseeing: Take a drive through attractive and prosperous farmland to the Ashburton or Rangitata River mouths.
A longer drive could take you on a day trip to the remote but readily accessible areas of the Canterbury inland back-country.
It is only 10 minutes drive to the town centre of Ashburton, with attractions including shopping precincts, museums, art galleries, craft centres, parks and sporting venues.

Skiing: One of New Zealand's top skifields, Mt Hutt, is about an hour away. Stop off for an apres ski drink in the resort township of Methven on the way back to Lake Hood.
